Earlier this month, Vegas Golden Knights forward Erik Haula suffered a gruesome injury that made headlines across the National Hockey League. Haula was stretchered off the ice early in the third period of his team’s 3-1 loss in Toronto on Nov. 6, after taking a clean hit from veteran Patrick Marleau as he backhanded the puck into the Maple Leafs’ end.
As you can see in the clips here below, Haula’s right leg bends in all the wrong ways and the poor guy spat his mouthpiece to scream in pain as he hit the ice.
His right knee buckled underneath him and he immediately grabbed it in pain. He was then stretchered off the ice as received a warm ovation from the Toronto crowd who felt the pain for him…
The injury remains tough to watch…
A few days after Haula was stretchered off the ice, the Knights announced that the centre would still travel with the team and now it seems like we won’t get an official update on his condition. The team however placed Haula on injured reserve late on Tuesday night.
However, on Tuesday evening, NHL insider Bob McKenzie revealed that it seems like Haula’s injury is far more complex than the Golden Knights might have thought…
“By the sounds of it, Erik Haula’s injury is complicated/complex and VGK won’t know full extent of his absence until second and third medical opinions, which he is in process of getting. More likely to be month-to-month than week-to-week but nothing known for sure at this moment,” McKenzie posted on his Twitter account.
Vegas already has centre Paul Stastny (lower-body injury) on injured reserve. The team said in mid-October that Stastny, injured Oct. 8 in Buffalo, could be out for two months.
Let’s hope for them it isn’t too bad for Haula…
