While most fans were aware of which players would go first and second at the NHL Entry Draft, it remained a big question who was going to be the third overall pick, joining the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Hawks decided to go with center Kirby Dach.

Dach was picked for his 6-foot-4, 198-pound size, his smarts and his skill set. The kid shoots right and posted 25 goals and 48 assists in 62 games with Saskatoon in the Western Hockey League. He had five goals among eight points in 10 playoff games.

He’s good at driving the net, is a smooth, albeit not speedy, skater with high hockey IQ.

He will certainly help the transition of the Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane era!
