George Parros will have to face the music this week when general managers from around the league put him to the question.
Fans and pundits alike have been very frustrated in recent years with the seemingly inconsistent rulings that come down from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety. Although there have been plenty of complaints regarding those rulings over the years nothing ever really seems to move the needle, but that may finally be about to change.
This week, the head of Player Safety in the NHL will have to face the league's general managers as George Parros is expected to be grilled by the league's top executives. Those general managers likely have many of the same questions that we do, but NHL insider Elliotte Friedman isn't convinced that this will lead to meaningful change down the road.
On his most recent podcast, Friedman would reveal his belief that Parros is more than capable of standing up to the general managers that will be in that room.
"I don't know how much everything is going to change," admitted Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "Number one if there was going to be a fight between George Parros and these GMs I would have to say I would take Parros in almost all, if not all, cases."
Friedman appears to believe that Parros will more than be able to handle the men that are expected to confront him during the meetings.
"He's 44, he's younger than a lot of these guys, he's still very tough, I don't worry that George Parros is going to be intimated by this group," said Friedman.
Friedman did acknowledge that the one challenging issue for Parros here will be about the inconsistency we have seen from NHL Player Safety.
"Obviously there's always a question about consistency but I don't think Parros is going to be thrown off by this group and we'll see what happens with that," said the insider in conclusion.
