The Gaudreau family continues to navigate a world shaped equally by grief and grace, with each new milestone bringing both celebration and a painful reminder of who is missing.

This past Father's Day, Meredith Gaudreau, the widow of late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, shared an emotional post in which she called her late husband "the best spouse" and "my life partner forever." She thanked him for building their family and for being her best friend, words that resonated deeply with fans who have followed the family's journey through unimaginable tragedy. She posted a picture on her Instagram Stories, showing her son Carter, 15 months, in his crib surrounded by pictures of his late dad. In text over the photo, Meredith, who's a mom of three, reflected on the moment, noting that Johnny was "very missed."

But even as Meredith honored Johnny's memory, the Gaudreau family also had something new to hold onto. Katie Gaudreau, the younger sister of Johnny and Matthew, announced that she and her husband Devin Joyce welcomed their first child, a baby boy born on Saturday, June 20, weighing 7 lbs 10 oz.

The name they chose carried enormous emotional significance: Matthew Guy Joyce, a direct tribute to Katie's late brother Matthew, who was killed alongside Johnny in August 2024.

"He's here," Katie wrote on Instagram. "The moment our hearts grew bigger than we ever imagined. Welcome to the world, sweet boy."

The tragedy that reshaped the family occurred on the evening before Katie and Devin's originally planned wedding on August 30, 2024. Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver while cycling. Both brothers were set to serve as groomsmen the following day. The wedding was postponed.

Baby Matthew joins a growing circle of little ones carrying the Gaudreau legacy forward. In December 2024, Matthew's widow Madeline welcomed a son named Tripp Matthew. Then in April 2025, Meredith gave birth to the couple's third child, a boy named Carter Michael, joining daughter Noa Harper and son Johnny Edward.

For now, the Gaudreau family continues to weave the memory of Johnny and Matthew into the fabric of a new generation, finding light in the darkest of losses, one name and one milestone at a time.
