Bobby McMann goes above and beyond after tragedy hits close to home.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann left some fans scratching their heads on Saturday night when he showed up to Scotiabank Arena in Toronto wearing rather unusual attire. McMann arrived for his team's matchup against the Vancouver Canucks wearing something at first glance that resembled a yellow construction or safety vest, not exactly the kind of thing you would expect to see a player wearing before a big game.
As it turns out however there was a very good reason McMann chose this particular outfit, with National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman revealing that tragedy had struck close to home for McMann.
"Bobby McMann was honoring a Leaf fan named Kevin who worked at a Loblaws in downtown Toronto," revealed Friedman. "He passed away this week, he was a huge Leaf fan."
I have no doubt that the die hard Leafs fan would be overjoyed if he knew that he was being honored by a player from his favorite team in such a fashion, and it was a tremendous show of class from McMann who had a personal connection to the man.
"Bobby McMann had gone to that store and taken pictures with him before," revealed Friedman.
McMann and the Maple Leafs did a good job of paying tribute to the fallen fan on Saturday night, dominating the Vancouver Canucks in a 5-0 that was never really in doubt.
