Dallas reportedly wants this blockbuster package that few teams can match.
The relationship between Jason Robertson and the Dallas Stars appears to be reaching a breaking point. The star winger remains a restricted free agent, and contract talks have seemingly stalled, making the possibility of a departure more real than ever.
But any team hoping to pry Robertson away from Dallas will need to pay a steep price.
According to Greg Wyshynski, who cited an executive from another NHL team that had inquired about Robertson's availability, the Stars are demanding a "Rantanen package" in return. That is a reference to the Mikko Rantanen trade, which netted two protected first-round picks, two third-round selections, and a promising young talent in Logan Stankoven, a second-year center with significant upside.
If that asking price is accurate, it underscores just how highly Dallas values Robertson despite the ongoing friction over his next deal.
The numbers certainly back up that valuation. Originally a second-round pick in 2017, Robertson developed into one of the league's most dangerous offensive weapons. He peaked during the 2022-23 campaign with a stunning 109-point season, tallying 46 goals and 63 assists across 82 games.
His production dipped slightly in subsequent years, but he remained remarkably consistent. His 2025-26 output of 96 points on 45 goals and 51 assists reaffirmed his standing as an elite scorer.
The combination of a stalled contract negotiation and Dallas's sky-high trade demands has created a tense and uncertain situation.
Last night, Robertson turned down the offer of joining the Seattle Kraken in what would have been a massive sign and trade deal.
For now, Stars fans are left holding their breath. How this saga resolves could reshape the franchise's direction for years to come, and as Wyshynski put it, this is very much a story to be continued.
