A frightening incident took place in the American Hockey League on Tuesday night.

Forward Kale Kessy of the Hershey Bears (the Washington Capitals’ AHL affiliate) was stretchered off after losing consciousness during a fight with blue liner Derek Sheppard in the second period of a game against the Charlotte Checkers.

The two men exchanged blows right before Sheppard connected with a huge right on Kessy’s chin.

He went down fast and Sheppard and the referees called for help immediately. Kessy was laying on the ice for several minutes before being stretchered off.

The team updated that Kessy was “alert, and in stable condition, and being transported to a local medical facility.”

This was a scary one to watch and we hope Kessy is okay. We wish him well.
