"It was distasteful," says Team USA's captain.
Team USA's captain Hilary Knight finally broke her silence yesterday on President Donald Trump's joke to Team USA's men's team this past Sunday that made light of the women's gold medal victory.
Trump, of course, invited the men's team to the White House for the State of the Union address but joked, "I must tell you... we're gonna have to bring the women's team, you do know that? If I didn't do that, I do believe that I would probably be impeached."

That joke and the reaction from the men's team sparked a lot of outrage online with people saying that Trump and the team essentially mocked the women's team and diminished their own gold medal win.
Yesterday Knight was asked for her comments on the joke and the reaction it received and she gave a very thoughtful response.
"I thought it was sort of a distasteful joke, and unfortunately that is overshadowing a lot of the success, the success of just women at the Olympics carrying for Team USA and having amazing gold medal feats," Knight told ESPN.
"We're just focusing on celebrating the women in our room, the extraordinary efforts, and continue to celebrate three gold medals in program history as well as the double gold for both men's and women's at the same time. And really not detract from that with a distasteful joke."
Knight later said that she was looking forward to "celebrating all great things that have come out of the Olympics and feeling the love and support and getting back in our respective communities and sharing this journey with them. And that's what this is all about."
As for her feelings on Team USA's men's team, Knight says that she feels they were put in a tough spot with the President's joke.
"I think there's a genuine level of support there and respect," she said. "I think that's being overshadowed by a quick lapse. I think the guys were in a tough spot, so I think it's a shame this storyline and narrative has kind of blown up and overshadowing that connection and genuine interest in one another and cheering each other on."
