According to a report from TSN's lead investigative reporter Rick Westhead, Hockey Canada has confirmed that they are retaining legal representation in preparation for a third sexual assault case against them.
The organization, of course, is still reeling from sexual assault allegations against member's of its 2003 World Junior team and 2018 World Junior team.
More from Westhead:
More to come on this developing story, but if you're not up to date with everything happening within Hockey Canada, buckle up. It was revealed this past May that Hockey Canada settled a lawsuit with an unnamed woman after she alleged that she was sexually assaulted by eight members of the 2018 World Juniors roster in London, Ontario and that officials within Hockey Canada helped cover up the scandal.
So far none of the players from that team have been identified as the ones being implicated, but several members of the team have come out to exonerate themselves. So far Jordan Kyrou, Taylor Raddysh, Carter Hart, Jake Bean, Kale Clague, Colton Point, Sam Steel, Conor Timmins, Robert Thomas, Victor Mete, Cale Makar, Jonah Gadjovich, Dante Fabbro, Cal Foote, Dillon Dube, Boris Katchouk, Tyler Steenbergen, Brett Howden and Max Comtois have all released statements stating their innocence and, in some cases, ignorance of the allegations. Alex Formenton, Drake Batherson and Michael McLeod are notable players from the team who have yet to make a statement on the allegations.
One this news came to light another woman came forward with allegations that she was "gang raped" by members of the 2003 World Junior team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Several members of that team have exonerated themselves, as well and no one has yet been implicated explicitly. Former NHLer Jordin Tootoo has denied any involvement or knowledge of the allegations, while current NHL goalie Marc Andrey Fleury has simply issued a 'no comment' statement. Fleury, it should be noted, is the only player from that 2003 Team Canada squad still employed in the NHL.
Needless to say this third set of allegations in just five months is pretty damning.
