Hockey player calls it a career to undergo transition into a male

Remember Harrison Browne? She (let’s use “she” for now to facilitate the reading) is playing for the Buffalo Beauts a woman’s hockey team. Sportsnet already did a paper on her few years ago as being the only openly transgender professional athlete in North American team sports.

Last year, the 23-year-old forward made a request to officially change his name with the league. First steps into what would become a long process in Browne’s life.

Harrison Browne announced yesterday that she/he will retire from professional women’s hockey at the end of the season to undergo transition into a male which is both physical and chemical.

I feel like people don’t take you seriously, and sometimes I don’t take myself seriously either because I’m walking around saying I’m one thing, but I look like I’m something else,” said Browne to the NY Times.

“It’s going to be so validating to look into the mirror and see the person that I see inside,” Browne said.
