A look at some of the most brutal reactions to the Hurricanes embarrassing Stanley Cup engravings.
Rarely do we see fans in any sport so universally united for a cause, but Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon has managed to achieve just that.
This past week, the Hurricanes unveiled their Stanley Cup engravings and the reaction from the hockey world was swift. Fans and pundits alike took to social media to express their disgust with what Tom Dundon had done, etching the names of his family members at the top of the section reserved for the Hurricanes.
Here is a look at the end result that has sparked an outrage in the hockey world:

The inclusion of his family members, family members who played no part in achieving hockey's ultimate prize, would have been bad enough but the outrage only grew when fans realized some of the names that had been omitted. One of the names that has caused fans to grab their pitchforks is that of Bobby Gorman, the team's equipment manager dating all the way back to 1976 when they were still called the Hartford Whalers.
Even typically mild mannered hockey fans, like NHL insider Chris Johnston, expressed genuine disgust at what Dundon and the Hurricanes have done.
"Let me be crystal clear here: If you didn't give every last piece of your being to earn this thing, you don't deserve to have your name engraved," wrote an uncharacteristically angry Johnston.
"If you're in primary school in Dallas when a team wins in Raleigh ... forget it."
Another name that has people up in arms is the exclusion of 24 year old NHL rookie Joel Nystrom who played 38 games for the Hurricanes this past season. Had Nystrom played 3 more games during the regular season he would have met the 41 game threshold to be on the Stanley Cup but instead he was also excluded from having his name added to the Cup.
Long time NHL reporter Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News simply called the whole thing a disgrace.
This has been a public relations nightmare for the Hurricanes, and more specifically owner Tom Dundon, and fans don't appear ready to let this one go easy.
