Holloway, Broberg brace for icy reception in return to Edmonton.
The two Edmonton Oilers who left the team via offer sheets this summer share their thoughts ahead of a return to Edmonton.
It will be very interesting to see the reception that former Edmonton Oilers Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg receive on Saturday night when they return to Edmonton for the very first time since both men signed an offer sheet that eventually made them members of the St. Louis Blues earlier in the year.
It would be hard to argue with the decision from either man when you consider the level of individual play they have achieved with the St. Louis Blues. Holloway already has a career high 8 goals, a career high 8 assists, and a career high 16 points after just 27 games as a member of the St. Louis Blues while Broberg has a career high 2 goals, a career high 10 assists and a career high of 10 points after just 15 games with the Blues. That being said they understand how passionate hockey fans can be and Holloway admitted this week that he expects an icy reception upon his return to his former team.
"They’re such a passionate fanbase," admitted Holloway to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I’ve got nothing but love for the city of Edmonton, the team, the fans. I’m excited to go back there. I’m sure there might be a few boos, but we’re ready to go."
Holloway understands why fans might not welcome him or Broberg back with open arms after the difficult decisions they made over the summer.
"It’s definitely going to be different being on the other side of it over there," said Holloway. "I’m sure fans aren’t really thrilled with me and ‘Broby,’ but ... that’s why it was so fun to play there."
Broberg on the other hand doesn't seem phased at all and is simply waiting to see what the reception will be like.
"I guess we'll have to find out," said Broberg. "It's going to be fun to be back there. It's going to be a good game."
When asked if he had to mentally prepare for what it might be like in Edmonton on Saturday night, Holloway indicated that he feels it will be like just any other game once his blood gets flowing in the game.
"I don’t think so," said Holloway. "Just kind of expect it. At the end of the day, adrenaline will kick over. You’re playing a hockey game. I’m more worried about just playing well, try to help the team win and ultimately getting that two points."
I for one can't wait to see how fans in Edmonton react when either man touches the puck tonight.
