This just in, according to a report from Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers have ironed out the details of their botched transaction from a day prior. According to LeBrun, Penguins veteran Patric Hornqvist is headed to the Panthers in exchange for defenseman Mike Matheson and forward Coltron Sceviour.

Check it out:

And now it's official with the Panthers confirming the deal:

The Penguins have also confirmed the deal, as well:

Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford's initial thoughts on the trade:

"First, this was a difficult decision to say goodbye to a terrific person and player in Patric. He was a huge part of our success over the last six seasons, including back-to-back Stanley Cup championships, and we wish him nothing but the best."
"Mike is a young, skilled defenseman with great offensive instincts who plays with speed and has a good shot, while Colton is a solid veteran player who has a lot of experience on the penalty kill."

And Panthers general manager Bill Zito's thoughts:

"A proven winner and champion, Patric brings a level of competition to our club. He is a talented veteran presence who plays with an edge and we look forward to what he can add to our group."

In case you missed it yesterday, hockey insider Kevin Weekes of NHL Network reported that the Penguins and Panthers had a deal in place that was Hornqvist for Matheson one for one.

Check it out:

And then... nothing.

Multiple insiders like Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet and Darren Dreger of TSN reported that the deal "hit a snag" due to... no one knows really. At first it was reported that Hornqvist hadn't been reached by Penguins GM Jim Rutherford to inquire about Hornqvist waiving his no trade clause. Then it was reported that the no-trade clause wasn't an issue. Now the deal is done and whatever the issue is has evidently been solved.

I have to say... I'm not so sure I understand this from the Penguins' point of view. Sure, Matheson could turn things around with a change of scenery but that's a HUGE risk to take on a guy who is signed at nearly $5 million for the next six seasons. Yikes.
