Huge amount of pressure lands on Evander Kane!

The Edmonton Oilers do not look like a playoff team. After falling to the Seattle Kraken 5-2 on Tuesday night, fans got on social media to express their frustration, mostly stunned that a team with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on board cannot rack up the points to become a true contender and push into a long Stanley Cup run.

Quickly, the focus shifted the injured forward Evander Kane, who’s been missing from the Oilers’ lineup since undergoing emergency surgery after suffering a gruesome skate slash to his wrist during a 3-2 win at the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 8. He now appears to be ahead of schedule, skating with teammates on Tuesday.

He’s not even back in the Oilers’ lineup that fans are already counting on Kane to be the solution for Edmonton’s lack of grit, energy and toughness to push the team into playoff mode.

However, others also believe it just won’t be enough. Kane has five goals and 13 points in 14 games played this season after signing a four-year, $20.5 million contract with the Oilers this summer.

Sure when he signed last season in January, he was a breath of fresh air for the Oilers, but they still fell short in the playoffs. There seems to be bigger void on the back end, and unfortunately that’s not an area where Kane can help…

It remains to be seen if GM Ken Holland will feel the same pressure that has been put on Kane’s shoulders and will make a move to acquire help to make the Oilers a top contender.
