By no means should we be complaining about the recent success Minnesota has had. The Wild have taken nine points out of the last 12 possible points since they snapped a six-game losing streak. The main reason for the sudden turnaround is the outstanding play of goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Dubnyk has been so good in fact, that he's putting the Wild in an awkward scenario.
Dubnyk is a UFA at the end of the season and has clearly established himself as the guy in goal for the rest of the season. With Niklas Backstrom under-performing and Darcy Kuemper struggling in the AHL, the Wild must decide what to do with their trio of sub-par goaltenders.
If Dubnyk continues his impressive play, he may make a case to be re-signed in the offseason. However, Dubnyk has never proven himself as a reliable #1 goalie in the NHL.
I find it difficult to imagine any of these three starting in goal for the Wild next season. The Wild are likely to pursue a more solid starter, but has Dubnyk done enough already to keep a backup spot?
What do you fans think?
