Huge update from Connor McDavid ahead of the Heritage Classic.

Connor McDavid was expected to miss one to two weeks following an injury suffered last weekend.

The Edmonton Oilers have received some truly massive news.

Last weekend, Oilers forward Connor McDavid suffered an injury and the Oilers announced that their captain was expected to miss one to two weeks of action as a result. Many, including myself, believed that this would knock McDavid out of the Heritage Classic scheduled for this coming Sunday between the Oilers and Calgary Flames, but on Saturday night we received confirmation that McDavid will in fact play in the big game.

McDavid was first spotted hitting the ice at Commonwealth Stadium with his teammates earlier in the day, a good sign that he would be playing in the big game tomorrow.

Since then McDavid has joined the Hockey Night in Canada panel and was able to officially confirm that he would indeed be in for tomorrow's big game, a huge relief for the Oilers fan base and no doubt for the National Hockey League itself.

“Everything is heading in the right direction,” said McDavid of playing on Sunday.

McDavid says he has consulted with medical professionals and feels good.

"I've seen a couple of docs and I'm feeling better," said McDavid. "The skate today was a great sign."

It simply wouldn't have that same big game feel if McDavid had been forced out of the lineup due to injury. You can hear his full comments on tomorrow's Heritage Classic in the short clip below:
