Huge update on Darcy Kuemper.

Big news for the Avalanche.

The Colorado Avalanche had a big scare in Game 3 of their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Nashville Predators, but it now sounds like the team may have dodged a big bullet.

On Sunday, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar addressed the media and provided an update on the condition of Avalanche starting netminder Darcy Kuemper, after Kuemper was forced out of Game 3 due to an eye injury. Thankfully Bednar informed the media that Kuemper had avoided the worst of it and that after going under evaluation his eye is going to be fine.

In fact according to Bednar it sounds like Kuemper could even be ready to go for Game 4 of the series, although he did hedge his bets on that front. Bednar acknowledged that there is some swelling around Kuemper's eye and that the swelling will have to go down some before he can get back out on the ice for the Avalanche.

I do wonder if the context of where the Avalanche are currently sitting in this series will impact how the Avalanche move forward with Kuemper here. They currently have a commanding 3 game series lead over the Predators and Avalanche backup Pavel Francouz performed well enough in Kuemper's absence recording a .900 save percentage and stopping 18 of the 20 shots he faced. The team could very well choose to sit Kuemper as his eye fully recovers and give Francouz another start in this series, comfortable in the knowledge that they have 3 games worth of leeway should something go catastrophically wrong in Kuemper's absence.

We will have to wait and see for Game 4.
