Don’t you feel like the 2023-24 NHL season is missing Phil Kessel? The veteran forward remains a free agent despite being the NHL’s reigning Ironman with 1,076 consecutive games under his belt. Without a contract at the start of the campaign, his playing streak came to an end, which Kessel had made clear he was willing to set that streak aside to play in a limited role this season.

While he was seen training with his former team the Vegas Golden Knights during the offseason, it sounds like we may know soon enough where Kessel could play next as David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that it seems like Kessel will sign a new deal since a pair of teams has interest. For now, it is a waiting game for Kessel.

Pagnotta does not say which teams are linked to the beloved forward.

Last season, Kessel took part in all 82 games for the Golden Knights, scoring 14 goals and adding 22 assists for a total of 36 points, but was limited in the playoffs which likely hurt his value as a free agent.

The two teams who have interest in Kessel at this time are believed to be working on creating the cap space to bring him in.

Most fans are rooting for Kessel to make it on to an NHL roster in order to to reach 1,000 career points. In 1,286 career games played, Kessel has put up 413 goals and 579 assists for 992 total points.

He deserves to come back and get those eight points.
