Humboldt Broncos player Layne Matechuk returns to the ice for the first time following tragic bus crash

Months in a coma and now he's back on the ice. Truly an inspiration.

It’s been just over two and a half years since the horrific bus crash that claimed the lives of 16 members of the AJHL’s Humboldt Broncos. The hockey world has continued to mourn the loss of these individuals, but lost amongst the grief are the 13 survivors. Life has not been easy for many of the survivors, take forward Layne Matechuk who suffered a debilitating back injury and feared he may never play hockey again. Well… don’t look now but Layne is back on the ice.

Layne spent months in a coma after receiving a brain injury in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in April 2018. Layne was one of 13 people injured in the crash, 16 people died.
