In the past month, we have reported news to make you smile when it came to one of the survivors of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. Forward Ryan Straschnitzki made incredible progress in his recovery after undergoing experimental surgery in Thailand. He underwent the procedure in which doctors implanted an epidural stimulator in Straschnitzki’s spine in the hope that it could restore some movement in his legs and it was successful.

However on Tuesday, there is the constant reminder of sad news in connection to the tragedy. Tyler Smith, another survivor of the crash, revealed his continuing issues with mental health that he keeps battling since the tragedy.

With courage, he has decided to speak out about his own experience in an effort to let those people know they’re not alone.

“My overall message would be to realize that you’re not okay and if you’re not okay, do something about it. I think a lot of people just suffer in silence, but being able to open up takes a lot of courage,” says Smith.

This is so inspiring. Despite his struggles, Smith is still trying to support others.

Smith has talked about his physical and mental struggles since the crash in public before, including with Bell Let’s Talk.

“End the stigma,” he tweeted when talking about mental health.
