No wonder he remains unsigned…

The Anaheim Ducks’ training camp is going on without two key players: defenseman Jamie Drysdale and star forward Trevor Zegras, both restricted free agents who remain unsigned ahead of the 2023-24. When it comes to the latter, chatter emerged last week from Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports that the Ducks had only offer Zegras in the $3-4 million AAV range.

On Tuesday, Matt Murley of the Spittin Chiclets podcast confirmed that the offer made to Zegras by the Ducks and general manager Pat Verbeek was a three-year deal worth $12 million, meaning the star forward was being offer just $4 million annually.

According to CapFriendly, the Ducks currently have $16.6 million in cap space with 22 players under contract for the upcoming season, but it sounds like Verbeek wants to play hard ball with Zegras.

Murley also claims that three other NHL teams have made a trade offer to the Ducks to get their hands Zegras and it is believed that the Buffalo Sabers are amongst the interested parties.

Last week, we reported how Zegras had appeared to send a message to the Ducks when he changed his Instagram profile picture from him in a Ducks jersey to this image of himself putting on a blindfold mask.

While Zegras and the Ducks seem to be in agreement for term, around a two- or three-year contract, the forward is reportedly looking to be paid more than $5 million per season.

The 22-year-old star forward completed his three-year, entry-level contract last season, recording a career-high 23 goals and 65 points in 81 games. He was selected ninth overall by Anaheim in the 2019 Draft and has 49 goals and 139 points in his 180-game career.

What’s next in the stalemate? A new offer from the Ducks or… a trade out of Anaheim?
