A National Anthem singer who received widespread praise after his performance prior to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes has just shared some unfortunate news with his fans.

On Saturday Mason Greer, who has worked as a National Anthem singer for the Hurricanes since 2018, took to social media to reveal that the Hurricanes would no longer be using him during the Eastern Conference Final.

From Greer:

With great sadness, I have been informed that the hurricanes will be sticking with one anthem singer for the remainder of this series. The support I've received over the last 3 days has been I will never forget. Huge thanks to the [Hurricanes] organization again for the opportunity!

Theories are already forming on social media as to why the Hurricanes would make a such a sudden shift, with most appearing to believe that Greer's decision to sing the bilingual version of the anthem did not sit well with the Hurricanes.

Here is a look at Greer's performance in Game 1:

Greer's decision to sing the bilingual version of the Canadian National Anthem was met with widespread praise from fans of the Montreal Canadiens, the opposing team.

It wasn't just Greer who was praised however with fans from Montreal tipping their caps to the Hurricanes for what they initially believed to be a great show of class from the organization.

Greer himself took to social media after Game 1 to thank the fans for the outpouring of love and support he received following his performance.

"Hi there! Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone for the kind words!" wrote Greer on social media platform X. "Despite being opponents, we always do our best to be respectful. Here's to a competitive and enjoyable series for everyone."

Unfortunately it would seem as though Greer's efforts to show respect may have cost him.
