Hurricanes sign a new goalie just one day before elimination game
Desperate times? Or a move for the future?
This just in, the Carolina Hurricanes have signed 22 year old German goaltender Nikita Quapp to a two year, entry-level contract.
But here's the thing... the first year starts today, as in during the 2024-25 season. So, that means that the first year of Quapp's new deal could end tomorrow if the Hurricanes are eliminated from the Eastern Conference Final by the Florida Panthers.
“Nikita is a big netminder with several years of experience in the top German league” said Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky in a prepared statement. “We look forward to tracking his development as he transitions to professional hockey in North America.”
The Hurricanes are expected to dress both Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kotchetkov for Game 5 tomorrow evening, but Quapp is now an option for the team should they elect to throw him into the fire. Do they dare?
