“I think we have seen the last game from Frederik Andersen in a Toronto Maple Leafs uniform”

A stunning prediction.

The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered an ugly loss at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday during Game 5 of their Qualifying Round series, one that in no way resembled the heroic comeback they had made in Game 4 to remain alive in the tournament. The loss however played out exactly how you would have drawn it up if you were Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella and there are many who now believe that the Toronto Maple Leafs will need to make drastic changes if they want to become a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.

Most of the changes people are talking about however involve their group of highly paid forwards or their lackluster defense, however on Monday one National Hockey League insider predicted that goaltender Frederik Andersen will also be among those changes, going so far as to suggest that he believes Andersen's time has already come to an end. During a new show that he has dubbed "Real Kyper at Noon" former Sportsnet analyst Nick Kypreos stated flatly that he believes Andersen is done in Toronto and those sentiments were largely echoed by his co-host Doug MacLean.

"I think we have seen the last game from Frederik Andersen in a Toronto Maple Leafs uniform," said Kypreos. "He's got one year left on his deal and he is certainly not going to want to go in there and play it out and they are not gonna want him to go in there and play it out. He's gonna want an extension and I think we see a different goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs."

As I stated his co-host Doug Maclean seemingly agreed with the sentiments put forth by Kypreos. While Kypreos was speaking on some of the problems with Andersen, Maclean jumped in to pile on even worse.

"He was good in the series but he wasn't as good as the guy across," said Kypreos. "Freddy was good enough to lose in this series... his series clinching numbers for the Leafs are horrific, he can't close out games, and he let in that horrible second goal...."

It was at this moment that Maclean jumped in to add "He leit in a bad goal every game."

Could it happen? Will we soon see the Leafs with a new goaltender? These two veteran analysts certainly seem to believe it.
