Veteran defenseman Ian Cole is on his way to the Vancouver Canucks, having agreed to a one year contract. It will be his third team in as many seasons, as he spent last year with the Tampa Bay Lightning while playing with the Carolina Hurricanes the year prior.
However, it seems that he was unaware that the jersey number that he requested was last worn by the late Luc Bourdon, who tragically lost his life in June of 2008 in a motorcycle accident.
Rather than wearing his traditional No. 28, Cole announced today that he'd be switching numbers to 82 out of respect for Bourdon's memory.
A classy move for sure.
