ICYMI: NHL veteran forced to retire due to nagging injury.

There were rumors for weeks that New York Rangers veteran Kevin Klein was contemplating retirement, and earlier today we received confirmation that those rumors were indeed accurate.

The 32-year-old defenseman ends his career with over 600 National Hockey League games under his belt, and he released the following statement via NHL.com.

"I would like to thank both the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers organizations for giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing in the NHL," Klein said. "Thank you to the fans of both cities for their appreciation. I couldn't have been happier to play in front of you. I will miss all the friends I've made along the way, from the staff to the guys I've played with."

"I'd like to thank my parents for everything they have done for me and for their constant love and support," Klein said. "Most importantly, my wife Jodi and our boys, Joseph and Oliver, who have sacrificed the most over the years. I am looking forward to many great years with my extended family."

A nagging back injury has severely limited Klein in recent seasons, and back problems can be very serious long-term problems, it seems like Klein decided his health was more important than his career and we have nothing but respect for his decision.

We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
