Subban throwing shade?

When it comes to athletes with unique or interesting personalities the National Hockey League is in very short supply, but there are among some exceptions among the generic responses you usually receive from the NHL's athletes. Perhaps first and foremost among those is New Jersey Devils star defenseman P.K. Subban who's personality can only be described as larger than life.

Subban's personality has served him well, there is no question that he has endeared himself to the fan base in every market that he has played in. To this day there are fans in Montreal who still simply can not believe that the Montreal Canadiens made the decision to trade what, at the time, looked like a franchise players for that organization. In spite of that trade though Subban remains an ultra popular figure in the city of Montreal and things were not much difference for the talented NHL blue liner when he landed in Nashville following that trade.

To say that Subban has had a major impact on the community in Nashville would be a major understatement. There are plenty of athletes who have used their platform to make all kinds of statements about the conditions in their communities or in their country, but Subban unlike many others put his time and money where his mouth is. His "Blueline Buddies" program is one of the most impressive projects I have seen a professional athlete put together in any sport and there is no question that the impact of his program will continue to reverberate throughout the Nashville community for many years to come.

That personality though can also lead him to trouble at times however. The infamous trade from the Montreal Canadiens to the Nashville Predators was rumored to have been largely motivated by Subban's personality and how it impacted the Habs locker room and the boisterous defenseman has also rubbed many a fan the wrong way with his antics on the ice. That being said though you at least can rest assured that you are always getting an authentic version of P.K. Subban and that is exactly what fans in New Jersey got when Subban first arrived to his new team following yet another trade.

In a recent interview with the New Jersey Devils media team Subban appeared to take a shot on his former team, the Nashville Predators. To be clear Subban was in no way attacking the fan base or the Nashville community, but rather seemed to be taking a jab at a rather cringeworthy moment in Predators' history. Subban was asked what he thought about the banners hanging in the rafters in New Jersey and appeared to mock the infamous 2017 banner raising ceremony in Nashville.

"[I see] banners, man," said Subban,. Like, legit banners, Stanley Cup banners."

It may simply be an uncharitable reading
