The New York Rangers have pulled off their second huge move of the day.

Just hours after trading away long time Rangers captain Jacob Trouba in a highly controversial move, the Rangers have now reportedly come to terms on a new contract with Rangers star goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

The news, first broken by Emily Kaplan and Kevin Weekes, indicates that Shesterkin has agreed to a new deal that will see him come in at an average annual value and salary cap hit of $11.5-$12 million on an 8 year contract.

The deal has not as of yet been officially announced by the Rangers.

The timing of this move is certainly going to raise a lot of eyebrows with the singing of Shesterkin coming in just hours after Trouba, a prominent defenseman on the Rangers roster, was traded to the Anaheim Ducks.

Shesterkin has established himself as one of the National Hockey League's truly dominant goaltenders during his time with the Rangers and there was no doubt that the Rangers would look to lock him up on a long term deal moving forward. This season, in spite of the team's struggles on the ice, Shesterkin has maintained his high level of play with a 3.05 goals against average and a .908 save percentage over 18 appearances for the Rangers.

Update: NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed the exact term and number on the new deal. Shesterkin is signed at an average annual value and cap hit of $11.5 million for the next 8 years.

Shesterkin's new contract is officially the largest contract for a goaltender in the history of the National Hockey League.
