Team Canada has tapped several executives to lead upcoming men's world hockey championship in Finland and Latvia, and fans will instantly recognize their names.
St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong has been named GM for Team Canada, with Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman serving as his associate general manager. Meanwhile, Arizona Coyotes legend Shane Doan will be serving as assistant general manger, while Scott Salmond will be serving as senior Vice President of Hockey Operations.
Had NHL players participated in the 2022 Winter Games in China, Armstrong was set to lead Team Canada as GM.
Yzerman helped lead Team Canada to gold medals as executive director in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Meanwhile, Doan recently served as Canada's GM at the 2022 Spengler Cup, and also as GM of Canada's men's team at the 2022 Olympics.
