Ilya Samsonov's agent provides update on negotiations with Leafs

So, what exactly does the future hold for Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov after what was a successful first season in the center of the hockey universe? 

He's one of 22 players in the NHL who decided to file for salary arbitration, and he's coming off a one year, $1.8 million deal that was given to him by now-former Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas, now with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brad Treliving is now running the show in Toronto.

And based on these latest comments from Samsonov's agent Don Meehan, things don't appear to be any closer to a resolution between the two sides.

"I really don't know what will happen," he said. "I imagine we will meet with the Leafs (one final time before the hearing commences)."

Tomorrow is the arbitration hearing, and could go a long way in determining what the next step is for the Russian goaltender.

His 2022-23 record of 27-10-5 with a 2.33 goals against average and .919 save percentage was about as good a performance as anyone could have expected, and while his postseason numbers weren't stellar, he was still able to out-duel former Conn Smythe Trophy-winning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy in Round 1.
