Imminent sign and trade for Jake Guentzel as Hurricanes stun with latest move!

The Hurricanes are reacting to forward Jake Guentzel looking to test the free agent market on Friday as Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that Carolina have informed rival teams that the star winger is now shoved and available on the trade block.

Friedman revealed that the Hurricanes are asking for a mid-round pick in order to complete a sign and trade for Guentzel.

“It sounds like (Jake Guentzel) is available for a mid-round pick. I believe Carolina has let everybody know that if you want to trade for his rights, for the chance to sign him, that it’s possible for a mid-round pick”

It makes sense that Carolina would want to at least get a little something in return after acquiring Guentzel ahead of the March trade deadline after multiple attempts to sign the winger. It has been projected that Guentzel could get a massive six year deal at $8 million annually as a free agent.

Before the Hurricanes reveal how they have put Guentzel on the trade block, the former Pittsburgh Penguin was linked to the Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks. With the Canes making it known that other teams can come with a mid round pick to get a sign and trade done, more contenders will surely look into this move ahead of July 1st.

In 74 games last season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Canes, Guentzel has scored 34 goals and 44 assists for a total of 78 points.
