The New York Rangers were reportedly looking to trade their former first round pick Dylan McIlrath according to multiple reports this week, including one from Rangers insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post, but those plans may have changed.

From Brooks:

The Blueshirts are believed to be seeking a trade partner for McIlrath, the 24-year-old who had a disappointing camp coming off an encouraging 2015-16, but in which — probably to both the team’s and No. 6’s own detriment — he played only 34 games as Vigneault stuck through thin-and-thinner with veterans Dan Girardi and Dan Boyle.

The injury to defenseman Dan Girardi may have altered those plans drastically, and in fact Newsday's Steve Zipay has indicated that the move for New York may now be to acquire a defenseman rather than trade one away, specifically pointing to the Ducks Cam Fowler.

Earlier today we reported that two high ranking members of the Rangers front office had been spotted scouting the Ducks during their recent match up with the Islanders, which would seem to line up with the aforementioned statement from Zipay.

Everything seems to be pointing to a Rangers trade, albeit not the same one they had planned prior to the Girardi injury.
