There was no surprise on Wednesday night when the Chicago Blackhawks selected Connor Bedard with the first overall pick. Nothing shocking there.

However, moments after the selection and the superstar prospect putting on the Hawks’ jersey, Sportnet’s David Amber got fans wondering what was happening at Chicago’s draft table when cameras caught Bedard filling out paperwork.

Bedard became the second No. 1 pick in Blackhawks history, joining Patrick Kane, who went first overall in 2007 and helped form the core of a team that won three Stanley Cups from 2010 to 2015.

Since we all know the key impact Kane had as a Blackhawk all the way until he was traded to the New York Rangers this spring, maybe Chicago isn’t willing to wait any longer to lock down Bedard on his ELC.

Or maybe he was just getting more and more endorsements in his new city!
