The National Hockey League's Trade Deadline is one of the most exciting days of the year for hockey fans, with tons of talk around the trades that are made throughout the entire day. Sometimes though the deals that didn't come to pass can be even more interesting than the ones that did.

On Saturday night, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed one of the biggest rumors floating around the NHL right now when he confirmed that he has heard talk of a deal that failed to be registered on time by two teams at the deadline.

"There is a rumor going around that there was a trade that was nixed, yes," confirmed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada when pressed by Ron MacLean. "Because it came in too late."

Friedman didn't go into any further details about which teams may have been involved or what players may have been involved, but it sounds like this was a significant trade.

Earlier in the same segment Friedman was asked to touch on why the Montreal Canadiens were so quiet at the Trade Deadline with the insider playing coy on this topic.

"I'd love to sit here and tell everybody I know what it is," said Friedman. "I have a theory, I don't think that theory is accurate. I don't know, I don't have the answer yet... Kevin [Bieksa] thinks I'm a chicken for not saying what it is but I'm not gonna do it."

Could the two be related? It's all speculation at this point but the one thing that Friedman did confirm is that the Canadiens were working on something significant.

"I think it would of been big," confirmed Friedman.

It sounds like there are still plenty of mysteries to unravel when it comes to this trade deadline and it will be very interesting to see what comes out in the coming days.
