Each and every year the National Hockey League's trade deadline proves to be among the most exciting moments of the season for fans of the league. Not only do we get to see Stanley Cup contenders bolster their roster ahead of what is considered by many to be the most grueling tournament in professional sports, but even teams outside of the playoff bubble get to generate some excitement by making trades that can help them in the future.

For this reason many fans have started to plan time off of work around the NHL's trade deadline in the hopes of catching all of the exciting trade action, and this year we may have something of an early leak regarding the big day.

Although nothing is as of yet confirmed, this week NHL insider Pierre LeBrun leaked what he believes will be the trade deadline for this upcoming season. According to LeBrun, the date circled on the calendar at this point in time is March 8th, which will prove to be a Friday.

This may be an indication that the NHL felt it's Friday trade deadline for the 2023 season proved to be a success as, if LeBrun is indeed correct, this would mark the second year in a row that it is held on a Friday. Previously in 2022 the trade deadline fell on a Monday and prior to that things were thrown totally out of whack due to the difficulties surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

The NHL and NHLPA's collectively bargained agreement specifies that the trade deadline must be held 40 days prior to the end of the regular season, which falls on a Saturday this year, but it is unclear why the NHL may have chosen to hold it on a Friday once again at this time.
