Insufficient offer for Pierre-Luc Dubois could push Habs out of the sweepstakes!

When it was reported that Pierre-Luc Dubois’ agent Pat Brisson had informed the Winnipeg Jets about his client’s attentions as the forward is reportedly not even inclined to sign an extension, not even a one-year bridge deal this offseason, it didn’t take long for trade rumours to follow suit with the Montreal Canadiens quickly becoming front-runners for the player who grew up cheering them on.

However, it sounds like they’re no longer in the lead to acquire the services of the Jets’ forward. According to reporter Marc de Foy of the Journal de Montreal, the Canadiens’ offer is not sufficient enough to get the deal done with Winnipeg.

“A source closely associated with the situation tells me that the Habs will have to be more serious in theirs offers if it wants to get a hold of Dubois in a transaction,” reports de Foy, translated from French.

The Jets are allegedly looking to acquiring a player like captain Nick Suzuki, Kaiden Guhle or Kirby Dach, but they are believe to be left out of any negotiations at the moment by Canadiens GM Kent Hughes. The Habs are not willing to part with that caliber of player or prospects and could be putting a trade in jeopardy if they do not up the ante.

It remains to be seen if the Canadiens will be able to make it work as Dubois keeps being seen in Montreal’s hot spots as if he were already making it home.

The Los Angeles Kings are also believed to be serious about acquiring Dubois with other teams like the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins also in the mix.

Let’s see what Hughes will decide to do if indeed his low-ball offers don’t cut it.
