Authorities continue probing the devastating White Bear Lake blaze as the hockey community mourns
A horrific tragedy struck the Minnesota hockey community over the weekend. Jessi Pierce, who covered the Minnesota Wild for NHL.com for the past decade, lost her life in a house fire in White Bear Lake on Saturday morning. The blaze also claimed the lives of her three children, Cayden, Hudson, and Avery, and the family dog.
Pierce had a profound impact on everyone she covered, and in the hours since the news broke, messages of grief, love, and support have poured in from across the hockey world. Her reporting, dedication, and presence in the community left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.
The White Bear Lake Fire Department confirmed Monday that the fire is not being treated as arson. According to reports, her husband Mike Hinrichs was at work when the fire broke out.
“We are in the very early stages of the investigation, and our preliminary findings have not led to any evidence that the fire was set intentionally,” the department said.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause while prioritizing support for the families affected and the first responders who witnessed the devastating scene.
Fire crews responded to the residence on Richard Avenue at 5:26 a.m. Saturday after neighbors spotted flames coming from the roof and feared people were inside. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fully involved structure and immediately began suppression efforts. Tragically, they discovered Pierce, her three children, and their dog deceased. Her children were ages 4, 6, and 8, according to The Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Alongside the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, investigators are dedicating all available resources to determine the cause of the fire. While the investigation continues, the hockey community is rallying around Pierce’s family.
If you would like to support the family during this heartbreaking time, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help those impacted by this unimaginable loss.
Please keep the Pierce family in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
