Is Justin Holl's NHL career over?
The Red Wings dump the veteran blueliner today.
This just in, the Detroit Red Wings have demoted defenseman Justin Holl and forward Austin Watson to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
From the Red Wings:
Holl, of course, has been the subject of much consternation from fans at seemingly every stage of his professional career. He was effectively run out of town by Toronto Maple Leafs fans during his time with the club and now Red Wings fans have hopped on the bandwagon.
Red Wings fans have been calling for Holl's demotion for over a season now and the team's 1-2 start in their first three games hasn't helped matters. Now he's headed to the AHL but... I suspect he won't be there for long. While Red Wings fans may be wishing for Holl to remain in the AHL, he's likely to be recalled for the Red Wings' next game on Thursday evening. This has all the makings of a money saving 'paper transaction' that GM Steve Yzerman loves to utilize.
