Defenceman Devon Toews has a new home. The New York Islanders have shipped the 26-year-old to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a second-round pick in 2021 and another second-rounder in 2022.

Toews was drafted 108th overall by the Islanders in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In 116 regular season NHL games, the blueliner has put up 11 goals and 46 points.

Avs GM Joe Sakic may have made this move to have some insurance after the trade involving defenceman Nikita Zadorov. Colorado is counting on a couple of young defenceman to make the team this year but, of course, plans don't always come to fruition. In the meantime, Toews is a solid addition to the Avalanche's blueline.

Toews is currently a restricted free agent and will need to be signed to a new contract by Colorado.
