Things got exciting just last week for former third overall pick Alex Galchenyuk when he signed a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.
It did not last long…
On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Galchenyuk had been released by the Avalanche, per the Athletic’s insider Peter Baugh:
This could mean it is the end of the NHL road for Galchenyuk, who never turned out to be the offensive forward everyone projected he would become in the NHL…
The infamous 2012 NHL Entry Draft has had its load of deceptions and maybe it just happens that Galchenyuk will land in Europe or in the KHL where the man chosen in the top spot, Nail Yakupov, has spent the last few seasons…
Galchenyuk is just six year removed from a 30 goal campaign with the Canadiens and he could provide another NHL team with some depth offensive production.
Last season, he put up six goals and 21 points in 60 games with the Arizona Coyotes. In total he has suited up for the Canadies, twice for the Coyotes, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Minnesota Wild, the Ottawa Senators and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
What is next for him?
