Jack Campbell finds out his fate after Oilers take drastic measure!

On Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers placed goalie Jack Campbell on waivers after he’s put up a 1-4-0 record this season with a .873 save percentage and a 4.50 goals-against average. Let’s not forget he remains signed through 2026-27.
On Wednesday at the waiver deadline, Campbell found that that no other NHL team was willing to give him a chance, probably due to his poor performance and the fact that he’s currently in the second season of a five-year, $25 million contract signed with the Oilers as a free agent in 2022.
Campbell will therefore be assigned to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, leaving Stuart Skinner as the clear No. 1 in Edmonton’s goal.
Dryden Hunt, who was also placed on waivers, by the Calgary Flames, cleared as well.
To be honest, Skinner hasn’t been that much better with a 1-4-1 record, 3.99 GAA and .856 save percentage in seven appearances. He was in goal for Edmonton’s 6-2 loss against the Canucks at Vancouver on Monday night, giving up six goals on 36 shots.
Edmonton is likely to recall Calvin Pickard in an effort to shake things up. The 31-year-old netminder is 2-2 with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors this season with a .939 save percentage and a 2.03 GAA. He last played in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings in 2021-22, going 1-1 in three outings.
In 116 career NHL games, Pickard has a 35-54-10 record with a .903 save percentage and a 3.03 GAA.
At the moment in practice, the Oilers were using an EBUG, Ludwig, for the time being.
Demoting Campbell isn't doing much to help the Oilers expect saving some pennies against the cap. However, most of the $1.15 million it does open up will go to covering Pickard's approximately $750,000 cap hit.
Some folks in Edmonton say it's not time to hit the panic button yet, however I bet Campbell might be doing exactly that being sent down by the Oilers, having to find his footing and gain back some confidence before he can be called back up...
