Jack Campbell makes a life changing announcement.

It is officially over.

Over the weekend veteran National Hockey League goaltender Jack Campbell took to social media to announce that he was officially hanging up his skates and stepping away from professional hockey.

Campbell made the announcement while promoting his new career as a life coach, something that had the unfortunate effect of making the entire thing sound a little insincere for me personally. Campbell did however make clear that he was stepping away from the NHL to pursue this new career moving forward.

"Walking away from hockey wasn’t easy," wrote Campbell in a caption that accompanied his Instagram post. "It gave me more than I could have ever imagined. But over the last few years, I realized the work that brought me the most fulfillment wasn’t stopping pucks—it was helping people become who they’re capable of becoming."

Campbell's final two seasons in the NHL were underwhelming, with Campbell appearing in just 5 games for the Edmonton Oilers during the 2023-24 season, a season in which he spent most of his time with the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors. His final season came with the Detroit Red Wings during the 2024-25 NHL season, but Campbell did not appear in a single game for the Red Wings and instead entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program in October of 2024. Campbell would only appear in 14 games for the Red Wings AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, that season and finished that campaign with a .893 save percentage in the AHL and the writing seemed to be on the wall at that point for his career.

Campbell did not play in the NHL or the AHL during the 2025-26 season.
