In November 2022, when Pat Maroon was a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins broadcaster Jack Edwards mocked Maroon’s weight on live television, while also stating that “inadvertent fasting for Pat Maroon is like going four hours without a meal”. Maroon immediately took the high road by making a donation to a charity that helps people struggling with mental health and body image.

The two men then met in the Lightning’s dressing room in January 2023 to try to smooth things over.

Of course, the incident was back trending on Friday at the trade deadline when the Minnesota Wild, who had acquired Maroon in the summer, shipped the veteran forward to Boston.

Matt Porter reached out to Edwards on Friday after the Bruins acquired Maroon, and got this reaction from the broadcaster via text:

“Looking forward to the next time we meet up.

“He’ll never lose a fight now that he’s wearing the right sweater on NESN’s Bruins telecasts."

It could be a short tenure in Boston for Maroon, who is set to become a UFA at the end of the season with an AAV of $800,000.

While he will join his new team in Boston, Maroon is not likely to return for another two or three weeks after undergoing back surgery this season.

Maroon is looking for a chance to win a fourth Stanley Cup. He won three in a row – first in St. Louis in 2019, and then two in a row with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

As he awaits his return to play his first game in a Bruins’ uniform, maybe he can spend some time with Edwards and get acquainted.
