The fanbase is quickly turning on the former 1st overall pick
It's looking like another step back for the New Jersey Devils this season.
After getting back to the post-season in 2024-25, the Devils are on the outside of the playoff picture looking in this season and they have a LOT of work to do if they're going to change their fate.
The Devils are currently seven points out of a playoff spot and with only 27 games left in the regular season, they'll be in tough to make up ground.
Star forward Jack Hughes has shouldered a lot of criticism from the Devils' fanbase in recent seasons for what many perceive to be a genuine lack of care about wins and losses. The narrative that a lot of Devils fans seem to push is that Hughes is only out for personal glory and padding his statistics and isn't interested in changing his game to help the team win.
There's no doubt that there's growing friction between fans and the former 1st overall pick and his comments today won't help alleviate that friction.
When asked by a reporter if Hughes has a message for Devils fans who are losing hope in him and his team's ability to make it to the playoffs, Hughes deflected the question saying, "I honestly have nothing to say to them. For us as a group we just have to figure out a way to win more hockey games."

C'mon, Jack...
This was your chance to put all this friction to rest and to put your money where your mouth is... instead you took the easy way out. Again...
I love the skill on this kid and think he's capable of great things, but it's clear that New Jersey is wearing thin on him and he's wearing thin on New Jersey. To me, at least.
