Horror on the ice as Jaden Schwartz is struck in the face by a skate.
A horrific scene has just unfolded in the National Hockey League and I can only hope that Seattle Kraken veteran forward Jaden Schwartz is going to be ok.
The 33 year old Schwartz and his fellow Kraken teammates faced off against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night and it would be during that game's very first period that Schwartz would be involved in a terrifying incident.
There were only seconds left on the game clock in the first period when a freak accident would lead to the skate of Ottawa Senators forward Nick Cousins striking Schwartz directly in the face at a truly terrible looking angle. Cousins, despite his reputation as one of the NHL's dirtiest and most reviled players, can't be blamed for this one as he was launched into the air by a body check courtesy of the Kraken's Eeli Tolvanen only moments before his skate made contact with Schwartz's face.
As you will see from the replay below, this is clearly a case of everything going wrong all at once and converging together to make something even worse manifest itself. Unfortunately for Schwartz, he was on the wrong end of this one.
Schwartz did leave the ice under his own power but that isn't saying much as the injury here was caused by a skate blade to the face. I can only hope that Schwartz is going to be ok.
