Jake DeBrusk shares an inside look at the Miller-Pettersson feud.

The Vancouver Canucks imploded before our eyes during the course of the 2024-25 National Hockey League regular season. An internal conflict between star forward J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson appeared to infect and impact the entire team from the players all the way up to the team's upper management.

We of course all know how it played out in the end with the Canucks eventually making a trade that sent J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers, but we have heard very little about how it felt to be on the inside of that tumultuous locker room.

This past week, Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk shared his thoughts on being caught in the middle of the two feuding stars, doing so in his very first season as a member of the team.

"J.T. had me over for dinner a couple of times and I love him a lot," said DeBrusk as per the Edmonton Journal. "I was sitting beside Petey in the dressing room and we hung out a lot. It became a thing where I was almost the middle man."

DeBrusk sounds like he wasn't happy with the fact that Miller was eventually traded to the Rangers, expressing that he wished he could have spent more time playing alongside the fiery forward.

"In all fairness I wish the best for J.T. and his family, They welcomed me," said DeBrusk. "For me it’s unfortunate. I wanted to play longer with them but it’s not my decision. Trades happen all the time. Yeah, it was a crazy time."

DeBrusk however has been able to keep a level head through it all and even admits that he himself doesn't have the full picture of what went down between the two star forwards. As DeBrusk accurately points out, he had only just arrived when things went south.

"I have the perfect excuse. I wasn’t there that long. I don’t know everything (in the past)," said Debrusk.

It will still be some time before we know whether or not the Canucks made the right decision in moving on from Miller, but a bounce back season from Elias Pettersson could help fans in Vancouver quickly forget about the ugly situation from last season.
