All eyes are on Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun as trade chatter in Arizona keeps heating up. He repeated how he wants out, but the fact remains that GM Bill Armstrong is asking a lot in return for the blue liner, reportedly seeking at least one first-round pick plus a top prospect or a good young NHL player.

We can understand why the general manager is being patient, and maybe even picky. Chychrun is a talented player and is the best trade chip Arizona has.

However, how can the defenseman, who lacks no-trade protection, can be picky about a potential trade? We ask because

The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline noted a rumor claiming Chychrun rejected a trade to the Columbus Blue Jackets despite lacking no-trade protection. The insider reported that the Jackets attempted to acquire Chychrun leading up to the 2022 draft in July, but that the steep asking price was an issue.

But clearly for Chychrun : Columbus was or is an issue as well… Maybe he would re-consider now that the Blue Jackets have Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine on board long term?

For weeks, Chychrun has been linked to the Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, Edmonton and Toronto though the Oilers and Maple Leafs are reportedly now out.

Could the Blue Jackets come back into the sweepstakes - and what would Chychrun say about their renewed interest?
