Jakob Chychrun trade hits a roadblock.

The trade has hit a snag.

It seems like it has been well over a season now that we have been hearing murmurs suggesting that one team or another is close to making a blockbuster trade deal for Arizona Coyotes star defenseman Jakob Chychrun, but in spite of those rumors the Coyotes have held firm and still have Chychrun on their roster... perhaps for the foreseeable future.

It would seem that there is now real concern about Chychrun's injury history, including a recent wrist injury that has kept him out of action since training camp. It's not like those concerns are illegitimate either, Chychrun's long injury history includes  surgery on both knees, shoulder surgery, ankle surgery and a pair of wrist surgeries now as well. Chychrun has also suffered a concussion during his career, but I believe that is likely less of a factor than the surgeries.

National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman has suggested that a trade won't be coming soon, although a return to play from Chychrun could spark interest back up again.

“I have heard from multiple sources that right now between the Senators and the Coyotes, there just isn't a path to make a deal,” said Friedman as per Sportsnet “That could always change once he resumes playing, but right now it doesn't appear to be on the table at all.”

The latest update from Arizona Coyotes head coach Andre Tourigny would appear to line up with the rumors, with Tourigny reporting that Chychrun is still a while away from a return and continues to have pain in his injured wrist. Chychrun met with a specialist this week, but is now back at home recovering due to the pain he was feeling during battle drills.

This would appear to indicate interest in Chychrun will continue to wane, at least until he returns, with none of the teams he has been linked to seemingly willing to meet the Coyotes' high asking price. That list of teams is a long one, with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets all expressing interest in trading for the defenseman at one point or another.
