Veteran National Hockey League forward James van Riemsdyk has found himself a new home.

The news was broken on Sunday by National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun, who revealed that JVR would be joining the ranks of the Columbus Blue Jackets on a short term one-year deal valued at an average annual value and cap hit of $900,000 for this upcoming season.

The move makes a great deal of sense when you consider the fact that Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell had publicly announced that the Blue Jackets were seeking to sign two additional forwards for this upcoming season.

The Blue Jackets have two spaces at the forward position in their lineup, one of which of course was caused by the horrific tragedy that claimed the life of Blue Jackets star forward Johnny Gaudreau.

This has left the Blue Jackets desperately searching for bodies with very little time before the start of NHL training camps and it would seem as though JVR is the first of the two expected signings from the Blue Jackets.

Training camp and physicals will begin this coming Wednesday for the Blue Jackets organization.

JVR spent last season as a member of the Boston Bruins where he remained an effective player, scoring 11 goals and adding 27 assists for a total of 38 points over a 71 game regular season.

The Blue Jackets are not projected to make the playoffs this season either, so van Riemsdyk could turn into an asset down the line should the Blue Jackets find a contending team interested in his services ahead of the NHL's trade deadline.

This would appear to be a great deal for all parties involved.
