It all came crashing down.
It was first believed that Philadelphia Flyers' James van Riemsdyk was getting traded to the Detroit Red Wings, pending a call from the league.
However, it has been overturned with the Red Wings pulling back from the deal.
Now both Frank Seravalli and Elliotte Friedman are reporting that JVR will not be traded at this deadline. There was a clear turn around from the Red Wings on a player that was expected to be moved before the 3PM final buzzer.
Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher later explained to Pierre LeBrun that "he didn't receive a firm offer from any team'' on JVR. Says they spoke with one team about a trade concept. But it was conditional on that team making another move. And that move didn't happen."
"Worked the market hard past few weeks but no fit," adds LeBrun.
Van Riemsdyk hasn’t quite been able to get back to his usual scoring touch from previous seasons, recording nine goals in 41 games for the Flyers in 2022-23.
Back in October, the veteran forward underwent finger surgery, which caused him to miss more than a month of action. He is in the final season of a five-year, $35-million contract ($7-million cap hit) he signed with the Flyers in 2018.
And it looks like the deal will run out in Philly.
